The New Neighbor

reading image

Tim was usually excited to go outside and play after school, but recently he felt different. There was a new kid in the neighborhood who wasn't very nice to Tim. The new kid, Alex, would laugh at Tim's old bike, call him names, and tell him he couldn't join in games at the park. Tim felt sad and didn't want to deal with being teased, so he started staying inside.

On days when Tim stayed home, he would sit by the window and watch the other kids play. He would read his favorite comic books, build castles with his blocks, and help his dad bake cookies. It was fun, but Tim missed playing with his friends and riding his bike, even if it was old.

Tim's sister, Emma, noticed that he was spending a lot of time alone. "Why don't you go out to play anymore?" she asked. Tim shrugged and said he just didn't feel like it. But Emma could tell something was wrong. "You can talk to me," she insisted.

Finally, Tim told her about Alex and how the teasing made him feel. Emma gave him a big hug and said, "You should tell mom and dad, or maybe your teacher. They can help you figure out what to do." Tim wasn't sure about telling an adult. He thought it might make things worse, or that they wouldn't take him seriously.

"But what if Alex laughs at me for telling?" Tim worried. Emma put her arm around him, "I'll be with you, and I'm sure Alex will stop if he knows it's serious. Plus, you're not alone in this."

That evening, with a bit of courage from Emma, Tim told his parents about what was happening with Alex. They listened carefully and promised to help him find a way to solve the problem. Tim felt a little better, knowing he didn't have to face this alone.
