Vacations are times to take a break and relax. People travel to various places for their vacations, whether it's the beach, the mountains, or a city they've never visited before. During summer, the days are long and warm, which makes it the perfect time for a vacation. While many families go to amusement parks or take trips to the beach, my family does something quite different. Every summer, we visit a new national park.
Why National Parks?
My mom has a big book about national parks. When she was a child, her family didn't have much money to travel to fancy places. Instead, they would go camping in national parks. They would sleep under the stars, cook food on an open fire, and go on long hikes to see the natural wonders. My mom fell in love with the peace and beauty of the parks and wanted to share that with her family.
As a result, when my siblings and I were born, she decided that every summer, we would visit a different national park. It became our unique family tradition.
Adventures in the Parks
We've had so many adventures in these parks. One summer, we went to Yellowstone and saw the famous Old Faithful geyser erupt. Another year, we hiked in the Grand Canyon and looked out at the massive, colorful cliffs. My favorite trip was to Yosemite, where we saw the giant sequoia trees, some of which are over a thousand years old!
These trips have not just been about seeing beautiful places. They've taught us the importance of nature, conservation, and appreciating the world's beauty. We've learned to work together when setting up tents or cooking meals. We also make sure to leave no trace behind, picking up all our garbage and respecting the parks.
Creating Memories
Every trip has its memories. From spotting wildlife like deer and bears to singing songs around the campfire, these moments bring us closer together. We take lots of photos, and every winter, we sit together to relive our summer adventures, laughing and telling stories.
While some might find our tradition unusual, it has given us experiences that will last a lifetime. Just as some families bond over movies or games, we bond over our love for nature and exploration.
